Sarracenia flava f. red tube x alata f. red throat

This stunning hybrid is a cross between two species (Sarracenia alata x sarracenia flava). The red forms have been selected from both species and the result is a burgundy red pitcher plant. You will notice the color changes as the young leaves start off yellow/green and slowly become infused with red veins (see second photo). Eventually the pitchers turn a burgundy color…..its like watching the sunset! This plant produces visible quantities of nectar around the base of the hood which all sorts of insects find irresistible. More photos of this variety can be found at the online gallery.
